Jennifer Dexheimer, MSOM, Dipl. Ac, LAc, LMT
Hi! I’m Jen Dexheimer, owner and practitioner of Journey to Wellness. I am an Illinois Licensed Acupuncturist and Licensed Massage Therapist, board certified in acupuncture, with more than 25 years of experience in massage therapy and complementary healthcare.
I earned my Certificate in Massage Therapy, Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science with a concentration in Nutrition, and Master of Science in Oriental Medicine from National University of Health Sciences (NUHS). My professional background has also included more than 16 years at NUHS as a massage therapy instructor and complementary medicine researcher.
My education and experience have given me the opportunity to approach healthcare from several different perspectives. I value both the art and science of healing, combining traditional approaches with contemporary clinical knowledge and an ongoing interest in scientific research.
My Approach to Care
I believe care should be individualized rather than based on a one-size-fits-all protocol. Every person brings a different health history, set of concerns, goals, and preferences to the treatment room. Whether you are receiving acupuncture, therapeutic massage, bodywork, or complementary therapies, we will work together to determine an approach that is appropriate for you.
Treatment may also evolve over time. What your body needs today may not be what it needs several weeks or months from now. Assessment, communication, and your response to treatment all help guide that process.
My goal is not simply to perform a particular technique, but to draw from the different tools within my scope of practice to provide thoughtful, personalized care.
Education, Research & Lifelong Learning
Healthcare has always been a path of lifelong learning for me. My background includes extensive education in massage therapy, biomedicine, nutrition, acupuncture, and Chinese medicine, along with additional training in complementary approaches.
In addition to my clinical massage and acupuncture training, I completed a certification in Traditional Thai Bodywork through Blue Lotus Healing Studies and Reiki Master Level training with Heather McCutcheon.
My years in education and complementary medicine research have also shaped the way I practice. I believe traditional healing systems and complementary therapies can be respected while still asking thoughtful questions about what the scientific evidence does—and does not—tell us. I continue to follow emerging research and incorporate new knowledge into my clinical decision-making when appropriate.
Community Service
Community service has also been an important part of my professional life. One organization especially close to my heart is the Reiki Brigade, through which I have volunteered to provide Reiki to veterans, first responders, healthcare students, and communities in need.
For many years, I also volunteered with the Massage Therapy Foundation (MTF) and previously served as a Trustee on the Foundation’s Board. Its focus on education, research, and community service closely reflects values that have guided my own career.
Your Partner in Health
Wellness truly is a journey, and I believe the practitioner’s role is to listen, educate, support, and work collaboratively with each patient along the way.
Whether you are seeking help with a specific concern or looking for ongoing support for your health and well-being, I look forward to learning more about you and helping you determine what approach may be most appropriate for your goals.
Your partner in health for every step of your journey.
