At Journey to Wellness, massage and bodywork are not approached as one-size-fits-all treatments. Depending on your goals, a session may incorporate Swedish massage, myofascial techniques, neuromuscular and trigger point work, stretching and mobility techniques, acupressure, shiatsu, gua sha, massage cupping, taping, or other supportive approaches.

Some forms of bodywork, such as Thai Bodywork and Massage Cupping, may also be scheduled as distinct services. You do not need to know exactly which technique you need before you arrive. Your practitioner can help determine an approach based on your preferences, health history, assessment, and goals for care.

Therapeutic Massage

Individualized table-based massage that may combine relaxation-focused Swedish techniques with myofascial, neuromuscular, trigger point, stretching, acupressure, shiatsu and other therapeutic approaches.

Massage Cupping

Cupping may be incorporated into therapeutic massage or scheduled as a more focused treatment. Different cupping techniques may be selected according to the area being addressed and your goals for the session.

Thai Bodywork

A clothed, mat-based form of bodywork combining rhythmic compression, acupressure, assisted movement and stretching. Sessions are adapted to your mobility, comfort and individual needs.

An Individualized Approach to Bodywork

You don't have to choose between myofascial therapy, trigger point work, Swedish massage, stretching or other individual techniques when scheduling a therapeutic massage. These are tools your practitioner may draw from and combine within a session based on what is appropriate for you.

Communication is an important part of that process. Your goals, pressure preferences, areas you would like addressed or avoided, and how your body responds to care all help guide your session. The approach may also change from one visit to the next as your needs change.

Not Sure Where to Start?

If you're unsure which form of massage or bodywork is most appropriate for you, you don't need to figure it out on your own. Therapeutic Massage is a good starting point for many people, and your practitioner will typically start here at your first visit following the initial assessment. You practitioner will discuss your goals and help determine whether another approach may be appropriate as you progress through treatment.

For questions or self-care needs that require more dedicated discussion, assessment, or instruction outside of your treatment time, a Personalized Self-Care Consultation may also be scheduled.
